Our Services

The Classic 10-Series

Rolfing® traditionally follows a sequence of ten sessions, each with their own unique goals, that are experienced in a specific sequence. Each session builds upon the previous, and seeks to give the client new kinesthetic experiences each and every time. The Rolfer® works gradually deeper as the sessions progress, culminating in the 7th session (which is the session with the “deepest” level of work, tissue-wise), and then gradually withdraws during the final 3 sessions, in order to give the client time to integrate and utilize the new information accessed throughout the work. Keep in mind that while there are consistent, overarching goals for each session of the 10-Series, every client’s needs (and specific personal goals) are unique, and the techniques used to reach those overarching goals will be different depending on the person. Thus. each individual session and each 10-Series is tailored to the client. Some of the general goals of the 10-Series are: improved posture, ease and efficiency of breath and movement, and an optimal use of gravity and momentum in everyday life.

'“Tune-up” and Post-10 Sessions

“Tune-Up” sessions are perfect for the person who’s already been through at least one 10-Series and just wants periodic maintenance. Great for people dealing with specific, new, issues or past injuries, or for enhancing performance and recovery for physical activities. While it’s generally recommended that a client start with Session 1 of the Ten Series for their very first session altogether, a stand-alone session is also an option for people just wanting to give Rolfing® a try. Either way, there is no obligation to complete a Ten Series once you start (though it’s generally more effective if you do!)

Intraoral & Jaw Massage

Bodywork applied to the internal as well as external structures of the mouth can be extremely beneficial to those recovering from facial injuries, dental work, car accidents, and any other trauma to the jaw, face, neck, or teeth. Everyday stress can also cause unconscious ”tightening up” of muscles in the face, scalp, jaw, or neck. In turn, teeth grinding and clenching can lead to joint pain in the jaw and dysfunctions like clicking , sticking, and locking—which in turn can cause a great deal of discomfort and emotional distress!

While the classic Ten-Series usually involves some work inside the mouth during Session 7 (and it is always up to the clients to decide if they wish to experience intraoral work, it is never required), it is also completely possible to schedule stand-alone sessions specifically focusing on intraoral work in order to deal with any relevant issues or injuries. These sessions combine work to the external soft tissues of the neck, scalp, face, and jaw as well as work to the muscular and connective-tissue structures inside the mouth. If you have a history of clenching, grinding, jaw injury, dental work, TMJ dysfunction, migraine, or tension headaches, your doctor or dentist may specifically recommend intraoral massage, but feel free to ask them (or set up a consultation with me) if intraoral massage may be beneficial for you! All intraoral massage therapists in WA state (regulations there are much more comprehensive than in MN) must fulfill in-depth training requirements and follow strict safety regulations in order to get and keep their special license endorsements, and your practitioner is completely up-to-date on these.
